On January the 7th 2018 the Italians celebrate their flag with the Festa del Tricolore (literally, the Tricolor Celebration). The anniversary recalls when the emblem of our country was born on January the 7th 1792, 221 years ago.
The flag combines 3 colors: white, red and green and became the symbol of the so-called Cispadana Republic, an institution that included the cities of Bologna, Reggio Emilia, Modena and Ferrara. The proclamation of the flag symbol of this state took place in the so-called “Sala del Tricolore” just that far on the 7th of January.
It is no coincidence that on the 7th of January in Italy it is the National Flag Day and this year the important anniversary will be celebrated in the city of Reggio Emilia. This year, unlike previous anniversaries, a “lectio magistralis” will be held in the “Sala del Tricolore” for primary school children to inform them about the Constitution of our country and its principles.
The President of the Council Gentiloni will also take part in the celebrations, presenting at the main events of the morning, beginning with the flag-raising of the Tricolor with military honors in the heart of Reggio-Emilia, Piazza Prampolini. The President will also be present at the meeting with the children in the “Sala del Tricolore” and at the “Ludovico Ariosto” Theater.
The day of the 7th of January 2018 will also feature other events at the Museo del Tricolore such as a workshop for children to play with the symbol of our country or a guided tour on the history of the Tricolore to discover every detail of the birth of this important national symbol.
Also at the Tricolore Museum will be on show the exhibition “The Great War” from January the 4th. It can be visited until the 18th of the month to retrace the history of the First World War from the point of view of Italy.
